Belgium

Welcome to Belgium! It is a beautiful country, with two official languages, French and Flemish. I learned I can do neither very well. :P I can however appreciate the beauty of the country.

why is it that in Europe the planes have nicer seats than ours? my chair was leather, here you would only ever get leather in First class, I was in last row coach!

First stop in Belgium was Charleroi where my family resides and welcomed me in with open arms! Did I mention I really love my family? Well let me tell you they are the best! I also happened to go at the right time as all of them were off for Easter Vacation!

These are known as Goffes with Chantilly, but to me it was a superbly well done waffle with the most amazing whip cream on top.

Say Hello To my wonderful Aunt and Uncle and to The beautiful BRUGGE! It is rumored to me by many as one of the most beautiful towns! I happened to agree and the fact that most of its inhabitants ride everywhere on bikes just made the town a keeper for me.

The Brugge cathedral is beautiful on both the inside and outside.

You can not go to Belgium and not indulge in chocolate!

Brussels in Lights: We briefly stopped here and walked by this! I had to take this shot!

I was taken to a few castles along the Belgium path and this was the first:

Came back to find my little cousins with some friends in the backyard messing around, had to document their cuteness!

Next Day we were off to another castle in Dinat. About an hour away from the French border it had the most amazing river scene I have ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on. I felt as if in a dream. We picnicked on some strange thing they called a kebab but was quite delicious though not so much traditional.

One last goodbye to the Belgians before off to Germany! I loved every minute of my trip in Belgium: Thank you for making it the best it could have been! See you next 4th of July!

On Vacation in Europe

I look back on the blog and figure out that my message about my vacation to Europe has somehow been erased. I am sorry to leave everyone in suspense as to why I went away from Blogging all of a sudden. I am now in my third week of Roaming around Europe and am sitting in my nice hostel right of Calle de Atocha in Madrid, Spain finally with wireless internet in tact and able to post pictures online. As I had promised in my earlier post which has somehow disappeared or maybe its a switching of Countries of sorts, let the documentary begin.

A short interruption: I had played around with my website trying to spruce it up and put newer pictures in when I think I messed with the wrong code and got it all mixed up. I hope to have the website fixed soon but I'm not sure how badly I might have mangled it up, so until further notice the blog is where you can get ahold of me or my email eticula@gmail.com

Back to the original programming.

I have been backpacking or rather rolling (since I didn't have a backpack big enough for my stuff I went with regular luggage) myself though Europe. I've been on many planes, trains, busses, metros, subways, ubans, cars, and of course feet, all of it has been with transportation as its focus. I've fluttered around from one country to the next and from one city to the next.

I've decided to introduce you one place at a time. First stop: Charleroi, Belgium.

What a great new beginning to mark the season of Spring! My future June Bride Liz and Groom Rob met me in D-town to do some fun landmark hopping. We've had some adventures getting to this day as we've had to reschedule due to unpredictable MI weather, but Friday was just beautiful!!!!! A day to be out and about!d We started off at the DIA where we got what I think is one of my favorite shots of all time. The "door shot" as it will now be entitled! We then crossed the street to the best kept secret most suburbanites don't know about, the Detroit Library! Aesthetically beautiful and inviting, everyone should go check it out, I promise you will not be disappointed! Liz a Wayne State Alum has all these great tidbits about cool places to visit in Detroit. I think I'm gonna ask her for a list of places she recommends in Detroit that are on her to do list when in town.

Belle Isle was next on the list, pulling some illegal maneuvers on the way got us to our destination. :) Liz loved the botanical gardens and started considering changing her venue to the front gardens! It was surprising how much the outside of the botanical gardens looked similar to an english country side! I've been there so many times but never really got that perspective from such an angle til this shoot.

We headed back to Downtown Detroit again with my crazy driving, I think Rob would never volunteer me as head driver ever. I know I wouldn't! **Tip- The Greek Town Casino no longer validates parking! Sad even the casinos are going cheap. Eh, what can you do? The people mover is fun, creative, full of choice stops and at $0.50 a ride unbelievably cool!

Here are some awesome shots Liz and Rob put out! Some people take longer than others to get comfortable in front of the camera but these two were pretty good and up for anything right from the start, and they only got better as the day went on!

I've been MIA from the blogging business for over a month now and I think both you and I are getting a bit antsy for more... ;) Don't worry I have been in full functional mode for photography but just had to take care of non-fun day to day activities such as taxes, car stalls, and general I don't want to stuff. Now I'm back in the saddle again.

I have purchased my ticket to travel to Europe for 6 fabulous backpacking weeks. I intend to go visit quite a few relatives and friends around the continent, and also enjoy a week of vacation time verifiably uninterrupted! I am in euphoria just thinking about it. I will "try",( much force on the try because I don't want to promise that much and not come through) to document some of my travels on the blog! YAY! So in retrospect I plan on taking everyone with me on my vacation! lol I hope you enjoy it as much as I will! Plan to visit Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Romania with me!

I have a fully packed photography schedule before and after my time off! So if you're considering booking a session for when I come back I'd start getting ready to dial my number or shoot me an email.

Life is getting on in full force around here and I'm loving it!

A Moment to Remember: Jess & Paul

This past week I had a the awesome job of capturing the beauty of an amazing bride and groom: Jess & Paul. The ceremony and reception was held at the wonderful Ekklesia Church in Westland!

The day started with me meeting the bride at the hairdresser Simona's house which I love for they do fabulous work: Shear Perfection. There we took her bridal photographs of her getting ready and taking in the day. Her son Tristan showed up half way through the session and I have to say that he was the quietest 6 month old I have ever met!

We then proceeded to do some speed racing on the freeway to try to get to the church on time. We made it with 10 minutes to spare and then realized some of the VIP guests had not arrived so we had plenty of time still. Hey but the ride was fun!

When we walked into the church I was beyond speechless it had been completely redesigned just for the wedding. Diana Pop- did a wonderful job of reinventing the church for a special occasion! She did everything from the flowers, to the table settings. The cake was also made by a church member and it was not only beautiful but tasted divine! I was so enamored by how the church and its members got together and gave Jess and Paul a wedding they will never forget! Everyone pitched in somehow to help out, that to me that speaks of a fruitful and blessed church, when its body is active in service and spirit!

After the ceremony was over and hors d'ouvers were being served I gathered the wedding party and took them outside for some group shots. I think while they loved the idea the weather was less then convincing: 15 degrees is what my car was registering. However, despite the cold they were great, full of fun and witty banter.

I had an amazing time at this wedding and I will not soon forget the people that were such an inspiration to me on that day. Jess and Paul, I pray for a blessed marriage for the two of you. May God always be the center of your lives, from that all things will go well! Congratulations!

Dana & Andrei Engagement

I've known Dana forever. We grew up together, played in band together, and been friends for a long time. I was so honored when she asked me to capture her and Andrei's engagement moments. We did both an Engagement Session out in Detroit, going to the DIA and the botanical gardens, and also the engagement party! It was such a pleasure to meet Andrei and get to know him better. I love that photography gets me the opportunity to really meet new people and I try to really pay attention to who they are, the more I know them the better the pictures seem to come out. I get to appreciate people so much more by learning who they are, and these two are wonderful! Many blessings upon your upcoming wedding! Get some sleep in the upcoming months Dana! I've been slacking... sorry

But there is a great reason why: I'VE been SOOOO SICK. I've bitterly had a cold or flu for about a month now. I've seriously needed the rest to just sit and sleep. I've gotten a bit but not enough in my opinion! ;) I have had some portrait sessions, family sessions, and engagements all during this time so there will be alot of updating to do but lets start with Julia. My cousin came to visit for New years so we celebrated by having an old time styled shoot. We actually made the Birdcage veil ourselves. Yes we can be productive when we choose to. :)

Fun times at St.Hugo Of the hills.

I have a secret ( that its not gonna stay a secret) place I love to shoot at. Its called St.Hugo of the Hills, its beautiful and they are lovely people to talk to. I passed this place up a few years ago and decided to do my first senior session here. Now Its turned into one of my favorite places to shoot at. The landscape, while its has changed, is beautiful. I love just coming before a shoot to walk around and gather my thoughts, cleanse the soul a bit. I say a prayer and then am ready and awake to begin. I had a few holiday shoots lined up that we had to reschedule due to the unpredictable weather here in MI but finally this weekend we were able to get a beautiful day and while cold not unbearable. Here are some friends and clients that were up for charging the cold to do their holiday session! :) Hope you had fun, cuz I sure did! Elise is as beautiful as ever! Check them all out:

This family was so much fun! I had done a fashion shoot with the two young ladies you see here and now they came back for a family shoot. They made me laugh the whole day with them. We took pics outside and inside. We happen to hit a blizzard that morning but because we could not reschedule we just pressed on. And instead of complain this family just had fun with it! I love that! These are a few shots that I love!

Cristi | Senior Session

I met Cristi at a charity carnival this past summer and she kept me in mind for when her Senior Portraits were to be done. She was a bit nervous but brought along her friend Elena and her sister Ligia for moral and smile support! :) They were all great fun and even did a few jumping shots just for the heck of it! I've always said that senior sessions were so much fun and the more I do them the more I love them. I love the fact that I get to meet and really connect with new people. They let me capture a bit of their personalities and I'm always so amazed by how beautiful people are! God created us so beautifully and the more I do this job the more I come to appreciate his artistry! Cristi you are a beautiful young woman, embarking on a great journey in life. I wish you a great school year and much success for your future!

Tiff & Denny | Engagment Session

I've known Tiff for a few years now, we met at University and had a mutual friend that always kept us in touch. I have always loved what a sweet person Tiff is, she can always make me laugh with her sarcasm too. When she emailed me that she was engaged and wanted to shoot a session I was over the moon. Denny her finance is a U of M grad student and wanted to have part of the session there! I was getting more and more excited with their plans. U of M has a beautiful Law Quad and campus altogether. It is one of the most beautiful campuses I've ever been on and I love shooting anything there, but especially love stories! We met up at the Arboretum which is a huge park in the middle of Ann Arbor with the most amazing paths and trails! From there we took the bus to downtown AA. On the bus I learned that Denny actually presented Tiff's parents with a large Duck when he asked for her hand in marriage. A Chinese tradition that even Tiff was not aware off! :) But it made for a great story! They took me to the U of M student Union and I was blown away! If I had the money or the brain power I would love to be a student there! The Union is a beautiful old building full of power to fuel the imagination! We broke into private rooms, played billiards, and laughed our head off! ***Tip: To those who go to U of M, on Wednesday mornings billiards at the Union is free! Here are a few of my fav shots from their session. Enjoy.

Miss L | Portrait Shoot

I met up a few weeks ago with a good friend for an amazing shoot through what is rapidly becoming my favorite place to shoot: Heritage Park. We met up a bit late so we were charging the sun for light. We ran through Heritage, Shaiwassee Park, and Downtown Farmington! We got to catch up on life and had a fabulous time walking around town! Daniel | Senior Session

I love when guys just go with the flow no matter how crazy your ideas are. That's how Daniel was the whole time. I think I made him drive around with mefor 3 hours on Sunday, looking for the perfect places to shoot. We tried to first shoot at the TrainDepot where I had shot with Marta but that didn't happen due to the train actually being in use and not on the track. So after our initial sadness we perked up when we realized how many other cool places there still were to shoot. We found a really great Blue wall! And then the Cross hunt went on. He wanted a really cool picture with a cross behind him, and I thought that would be awesome. We started to hunt down all the churches in the area but you would not believe how almost none of them have a cross on their front door or anywhere a person may reach. The only one I knew of was too far away for us to drive. Almost giving up on the idea, I remembered that there is a Church I see from the freeway everytime I drive on 275 and they have a HUGE cross that at night is illuminated and beautiful. Thus we finally finished our trip at the feet of the cross. :)

This was an impromptu shoot just because we were bored on a Sunday afternoon! Meet one of my Best Friends and loyal model: Marta! I've been wanting to take pictures at a lake near us for months and we got out of church last Sunday and decided to take a drive, reaching the lake we concurred that we had to come back and take pictures. So after an amazing lunch with friends and a closet look over we stepped out to our adventure. Though I think Marta got a bit of poison ivy from one of our ideas, she turned out great and we had a blast of a time!
